Look at Brew is a celebration of great artisan beer.
As a keen beer drinker I started noticing the increasingly complex, modern and in some cases abstract art on bottle labels. Look at Brew started as a way to document that, but as I became a more mindful drinker my palate developed and, inevitably, this blog did too.
As well as being the creator and author of Look at Brew, I’m also a regular contributor to Beer Imbiber magazine, founder of the Sussex Bottle Share, and maintain an online store, craft X craft, selling handmade gifts and artwork influenced by modern beer. I’ve also recently volunteered as Tryanuary Regional Coordinator for Sussex. I’m a member of the British Guild of Beer Writers and I can be hired to write articles, copy, and manage or contribute to social media channels. Key interests include the local Sussex beer scene, mindfulness in drinking, general pub culture, beer and parenting, and small start-up breweries, but I’m certainly not limited to these subjects. The reviews and features found on this blog are examples of my work as well as the articles featured on the Beer Imbiber website. I was named one of Beer Bod’s Top 100 Beer Tweeters, and Look at Brew was listed in the Top Ten UK Beer Blogs 2018 by leading PR provider Vuelio.
If you’d like to get in touch with me regarding a potential feature or project then please take at look at my Contact page.
Here’s looking at brew!
Rachael Smith | Look at Brew
As of September 2018, I have been contributing articles to Beer Imbiber magazine. It’s a small publication with a big ambition and is under a new editor, Steve Finn, who’s updating it with some help from a very small team. I’ve started to help a little with social media, mainly Twitter and Instagram, and as I find my feet and get a better feel for the magazine as it evolves I hope that the content on the socials will become more engaging. In the meantime you can have a read of my articles printed in Beer Imbiber over on the main website, beerimbiber.co.uk
The content is published online and in print with copies available to purchase from the website (just £2.50, posted). Do go and have a look and give our magazine some support if you can. I really hope that you enjoy what you read because I’m enjoying having a publication to write for and I really want to see this magazine grow and evolve. If you run a pub, brewery taproom, bottle-shop or micro-pub, and would like to stock our magazine, please get in touch, we’d love to hear from you.
craft X craft
When I’m not writing about beer my other hobby is to make stuff – be it a craft project or a watercolour or doodle- I guess I’ve always had a creative side. This has led me to create craft X craft, a little corner of Etsy where you’ll find hand crafted gifts and original artwork inspired by the craft beer scene. If this sounds like something you’d be interested in then do please head over there, have a browse and in the meantime I’ll keep my social media accounts updated with any new listings. I have been commissioned in the past to create one-off artworks for people, so if there’s something specific you have in mind then get in touch, I’d love to work with you!
